Building Africa’s Cable Powerhouse: Coleman’s Decade of Industrial Growth

From our humble beginnings in 1996, Coleman Wires and Cables has grown into a symbol of innovation, resilience, and industrial leadership in West Africa’s cable manufacturing sector. What started as a vision to produce quality electrical wires locally has evolved into a legacy of groundbreaking achievements and industry transformation. Over the years, we have continuously expanded our capabilities from establishing large-scale processing plants to producing high-voltage cables and fibre optic solutions that meet international standards. Each milestone represents a bold step forward in advancing local manufacturing, creating jobs, and supporting the region’s infrastructure growth. In 2025, we reached a defining moment with the commissioning of Africa’s largest fibre optic manufacturing plant a first of its kind that cements Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global cable industry. This milestone is more than a facility; it’s a testament to Coleman’s enduring commitment to innovation, excellence, and national development.   Scroll through to explore our journey from building world-class factories to setting new records and shaping industries. At Coleman, every achievement tells a story of vision turned into reality, and a future built on quality, trust, and progress.       Creating Opportunity and Empowering People. This massive industrial capacity has a direct and powerful human impact. Coleman has been a significant engine for economic opportunity, creating over 25,000 jobs across Africa. But our commitment goes beyond simple employment. Our company is actively championing youth skills training and artisan empowerment. One of our most impactful initiatives includes the funding of 300 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), providing a crucial launchpad for entrepreneurs and skilled workers to build their own futures.   Investing in the Next Generation Coleman’s vision for progress clearly includes a commitment to future generations. We understand that sustainable development is built on a foundation of strong education. In a significant philanthropic gesture, Coleman donated a building to the College of Postgraduate Studies at Bells University in Ota, Ogun State. This move is more than just a donation; it’s a strategic investment in the education, research, and future leaders who will guide the continent’s development for decades to come.   A Legacy of Industrial Growth 1996: The company began its large-scale processing journey, handling an impressive 1,200 tons of copper and 800 tons of aluminum annually. 2009: A quantum leap forward, Coleman established West Africa’s largest cable factory in Arepo, Ogun State. This facility expanded their capacity to a staggering 8,000 tons of copper and 4,000 tons of aluminum annually, cementing their status as an industry leader.    In 2014, we commissioned the Sagamu Plant, home to West Africa’s only medium-voltage XLPE cable facility the fifth of its kind in Africa. This milestone marked a major leap in local manufacturing capacity and positioned Nigeria as a force in the regional cable industry. By 2019–2020, Coleman advanced further by launching a 25,000-ton Sagamu factory for 36KV cables while introducing backward integration for raw materials producing 3,000 tons of aluminum and 8,000 tons of copper per month. This bold move strengthened local content and ensured greater self-sufficiency in cable production.   In 2022, Coleman achieved another historic feat with the commissioning of West Africa’s first fibre optic cable plant, earning ISO 17025:2017 certification for quality and reliability. And in 2025, we proudly commissioned Phase V of the Fibre Optic Plant in Sagamu, boasting an impressive 9 million fibre count per kilometer (180,000 cable km) the largest in Africa and the continent’s first FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) production plant. From electrical cables to fibre optics, Coleman’s journey reflects a commitment to innovation, industrial leadership, and Africa’s digital future one milestone at a time.
